Presumably you’ve already read The Adventures of Tommie Sawyer, so you already know about one of her best pals, Hollyberry Finn. It’s Holly’s turn for an adventure!
After the events of Tommie Sawyer, Holly’s trying to live the respectable life, but finds that being a well mannered, clean and educated kid doesn’t agree with her. When Holly’s drunken mother turns back up in her life, Holly does what any child would do to escape her circumstances…. she fakes her death and runs away. Along the way, Holly befriends an escaped slave named Jinnie, and the two runaways travel together getting into all sorts of hijinks.
You could probably tell from the “escaped slave“ part that there’s quite a bit of racism in this book. However, Twain was an abolitionist, and one of the morals of the story is “hey, slavery is wrong, actually“. That being said, the “N word“ is said A LOT, so proceed with caution.
